The device is small in size and so is the remote control. Setting it up was a breeze at least for me. Connect the RCA cable to the device and the other end to the TV. I did not purchase the USB Netgear adapter from ZAAPTV, I bought my own, it was also a Netgear model number WN111, I got it from CompUSA for $20 Refurbished!!! Hooked it up, and powered the device.

The device immediately noticed the wireless adapter was connected, and detected my home network. It picked up an automatic ip address and I was able to enter the password for my home network. Within a few seconds the device was online and displayed the TV channels available. Anonymous, I am not sure what may be causing this. First I would check my network, if it's wired or wireless check the internet speed on ZAAPTV and see if it's the speed you think you should have.
If it's less, troubleshoot the network and test internet speed again. If the internet connection is not the problem, have you tried resetting the device's settings to the default manufacturers settings? This technically should reset the device to the state when you first bought it. Let us know how it goes and if the problem is solved tell us what you did, so others can benefit. If not let us know what you did so we can try to solve this problem.
Good luck Salam. Even if you have AT&T's Uverse you will still need the wireless stick to give wifi capability to the pod (ZAAPTV). I have not heard anything about Dishnetwork blocking any of these boxes, even if they are the legal broadcaster, I don't think they can legally block it since these streams are coming from outside of the US, I think. It would be illegal if the stream is captured in the US and rebroadcasted in the US. These channels are free worldwide and so streaming them to the US in not illegal. E,g: Aljazeera is offered on Dishnetwork, and you can watch Aljazeera from their own website!
I am not a lawyer or anyone claiming to be knowledgeable in these legal matters, but try to use common sense, but still common sense is not always the case in these matters. If anyone has any info regarding such legal issues, please let us know. Hey Anonymous (it seems like everyone is anonymous here), Indeed a lot of the channels are not working any more, and that's because all the channels (or most of them) are switching over to the new NileSat.
I did contact ZaapTV support, and they know of the problem and are working diligently to restore all these channels, I asked for a time frame, and they said somewhere between November and December. We will see what happens.
P.S: Did you guys check the support site for ZaapTV they have a couple of knowledgebase articles that might help you guys out with a few common problems, the link is: Salam. Hello everyone, Ok so there are at least 3 people who are not able to get their channels to show up at all. My first question to you guys is have you tested other channels?
Channels like Ajazeera should work, FX, MBC's, Infiniti, Al-Hayah (purple and red) all these I just verfired they worked today. If none of these show up, what internet speeds are you guys running? Goto the Main Menu - settings-Internet Speed Test.
If it's less that 2 Mbps then thats a problem. Another thing to check for is the software updates. Goto Main Menu-Settings-Upgrade Software. Before clicking on upgrade software check the Client Version. Mine is 5.6.0.17.2.4.23. If yours is anything less than that click on upgrade, it will even tell you if you have the latest or not.
Sorry these are the tips I have for now. I also found many problems get resolved by doing a Soft Restore. Main Menu-Factory Defaults-Soft Restore. It should restore the Operating System and reboot itself.
Try a hard restore if all else fails. A simple turning off the power from the device's back and letting it sit for a minute and reconnecting power will fix some issues. I hope you guys find this helpful. Please let me know if this help or not so others can gain experience from others mistakes. To be honest with you that decision you need to make for yourself.
I have not tried ATN so I can not advise you about which to get. Are you sure you are getting HD video ( at least 1280x720?), or you mean the quality is very good? ZAAPTV does not offer HD, video is in almost SD (due to bandwidth limitations) but quality is very good. It's just like watching a regular tv back home.
As far as interruption of the service, ZAAPTV is always working on their channels updating their infrastructure and such. Rarely you will get a channel or two not working for a day or so but they get to it fairly quickly. The last encounter I had with them was that most of the Egyptian channels were taken down except 3 or 4. The reason was because the channels were moved over to the new Nilesat.
I emailed them and confirmed that this was the case. Just today was when I saw nearly all my channels come back and a few new ones, which made me very happy. I am not trying to be biased to ZAAPTV, I am not affiliated or anything with them. I just used their product and writing reviews about it since I used it.
I will write a post about the channels I get and a few pictures for everyone to see, maybe even a video!! I just don't have time, but I will do my best to get at least the list up for everyone to check out. Anonymous zaaptv is the worst iptv u can buy.i don't recommend it to anybody. I bought it but i didn't have most of the channels, wn u can the customer service it take days to reach them & wn u finally reach them they say sorry i can't help u or they end the call. Also if u ask about the channels they say i couldn't send u an email with the list i can only tell u about 200 channels in the phone.
Technical support is also with no use & wn u decide to return it they take from u about 17% even if they have the problem. There r no managers to reach. FRAUD zaaptv & SERVICE. The comment about entering the password. Yes you will use the small remote for that. The small remote is used for all the functions of the pod.

When entering network settings (ip, gateway.etc), it will give you the option to go up and down thus changing the numbers and left and right to go from one column to the next. As for passwords, YouTube search.etc a virtual keypad shows up and you just use the arrows to navigate to the desired letter and press ok after each letter to enter it.
Everything should be explained in the manual. Please let us know how it went. Comment about Apple TV. Its true Apple TV is much better, but the trick is ZAAPTV encrypts the data going to and from the box.
Channels don't have separate URL addresses like you would expect, instead the pod connects to the main server, decrypts and authenticates the pod, and whatever the request was will be routed to the appropriate server. So there is always and intermediate server in between the streaming server and the internet. I think that's how its done, at least that's how I would design something like that, to eliminate people from trying to capture the streaming content (security of course). Hope that helps. Please, if I am wrong and you know the correct information please share with us all.

I personally think ZAAPTV will be illegal if it charges a monthly fee for the service without prior consent from these channels.
That's why they don't rebroadcast channels from Orbit or Art, because for those you need to subscribe. I am giving ZAAPTV benefit of the doubt, and that is they already have an agreement with all these channels to rebroadcast them over the internet. I am not going to ask for the license agreements. Just like no one is going around asking Dishnetwork, Talfazat or any other iptv service for their license agreements, that's absurd. They also have resellers here in the US, which I am sure are following the law, and they just got a new 1800 number for support (I haven't tried it and hopefully will not have to). People see it as to good to be true, a one time payment and all these channels for free (SD TV quality), that's an excellent deal. Of course other pay services will have to play on the whole legality issue, just to scare customers away.
But, what would I do if ZAAPTV illegal and goes bankrupt or shut's down, nothing really, what would anyone do if Dishnetwork goes under? The only scary part about ZAAPTV is the one time payment of $400 to purchase it.
If you feel different about this matter please share it with us all. No, nobody can tell whats the URL of those streams. Even if we did they would be of no use to anyone since the system needs to authenticate your pod first before allowing any streams to pass through its gateway. There is a method though if you are on the go and have ZAAPTV or any other IPTV or any cable box, where you can hook it to a media server connected to the internet and watch your channels through it on your laptop or iPhone (not sure if they support iPad yet or not!!).
Anyways, but you can either make one (needs a lot of experience) or just go and buy one. They usually run about $200. You can even control you ZAAPTV remotely.
Anonymous Roku has many Live Arabic (Yes including MBC 1,2, 3, Action, Nile Comedy + Drama, and more), Indian, Greek, just to mention a few. The Feeds for the arabic I've seen are as high as 1.6 mbps which is pretty good quality SD. Some Free include (BBC, CNN, Alzaeera English + Arabic + Mubasher, MTV Lebanon, Tons of Indian very HQ feeds from YUPPTV and much more with Playon or subscription.
And even US Cable is offered to us citizens living outside us. Roku sells for as cheap as $59 US. So why buy a $400 iptv clone when you can buy a programmable iptv / streamer that is%100 LEGAL. Anonymous Private channel. Website they have 20 premium HQ arabic Feeds.
Oh and the first 2 weeks are free if you dont like you can stop before your billed. I'll look for the code or just email them. Ok if you know how to use brightscript you can download the roku sdk and do what i do. Use the video player sample app and add all the hls feeds on the net as category feeds. MTV Satellite, Dubai TV, Al arabiya, and more those are free feeds.
The Roku is really robust and thats what makes it awesome you can program your own APPS. I will open a forum soon to try to teach everyone how to use this beauty. Really easy to do. Comment about Roku posts. Thanks for the input everyone.

I just wanted to point one thing though, after looking through Dmedia's website they are only offering 20 premium channels and 10 free ones for $20 a month plus a one time fee of about $100!! From experience people are looking for something easy to setup and use.
Plug it in and enjoy the service. Trying to find a service with many Arabic channels to choose from is very difficult, from those 20 premium channels they have the Egyptian ones, to be honest with you I don't even watch them!! There are much many more better channels to enjoy besides those few.
It all boils down to what the viewer wants, I like to have variety and be able to choose from 20 or 30 channels which ones I want to watch and not just be limited to a few select ones. Opening a forum to teach those who are interested in Roku is an excellent idea. Share the knowledge. ZAAPTV is a device you purchase, and connect to the internet to get live TV specifically Arabic channels (plus a few other international channels). No monthly fees no maintenance fees nothing at all. You only pay for the device you buy, once and that's it. Congrats on buying ZAAPTV, tell us how was your experience so far, how fast is your internet connection, and how is the quality.
You should find MBC in here: Main MenuMy TVMy ChannelsArabic TV. If not then you need to subscribe to the channel. Its a very simple process on a computer go to: Add an exception to the certificate, it's trusted and it belongs to ZAAPTV. Then go through the channels to search for MBC or any other channel, and simply subscribe to it. Then you will find any new subscriptions under Main MenuMy TVMy ChannelsArabic TV. Let us know how it goes with you, and if you are having any problems.
Anon, I am not sure an Android box will help out. If I am not mistaken, how are you going to get the channels (Turkish) to your box? Unless you have free feeds online and just want to watch them on your TV, then I guess you could do it that way. But ZAAPTV, they download the channels using satellites and rebroadcast them online, in SD quality, so you will not ( I am just assuming here) be able to get that quality from a website. In the Arabic channels some are found online, but many of them are not and ZAAPTV gets these channels somehow (by satellite I imagine) and rebroadcasts them to their pods. I hope this cleared some things out. Masrawy, It seem to me that you are very expert and generous in helping others in this ZAAPTV business.
I purchased the box 2 weeks ago from ZAAP TV in Calif. Found that it is missing all Al-Jazeera's and Al-Arabia news channels. I registered and activated the box. On Myzaaptv I did mark subscribe to all the missing channels, then by clicking on My Channels there were nothing registered then when I click on Add Channel Icon it leads me to a page asking for the channel's URL which end by.wmv. I don't know from where can I get it I left many messages to ZAAPTV technical support with no success to hear from them. I emailed them and what I got is few words 'ask any of your friend' I live in a town with no friend has this box.
Really it is frustrating and disappointing. The main purpose of purchase the box is to watch the news channels. Masrawy, The box I received had no owners manual and neither nothing on youtube under How to Sign in to your account and add channels on Zapp Tv. I really appreciate it very much if you help me and email me the instruction for adding the missing channels. Thank you for all your help to me and others. Jimmy Halim [email protected]. Anon, On the ZAApTV website ' ' it says: What are the requirements for ZAAPTV receiver?
High speed internet access with 1Mbps or higher speed. A TV with composite or S-Video input support. Ability to connect the ZAAPTV receiver in wired or wireless manner with the internet router/ hub.
So according to their website you should be fine, but in reality I don't think that's enough. Don't forget you still have a router and other devices connected, so that will drop your download speed further more, since its shared. I am sorry I could not test it since my router does not have this feature to control the bandwidth I am receiving, otherwise I could have and told you about it. If anyone has a 1 Mbps connection can they vouch for it working?
Tony76 Hello Masrawy, I recently bought a Zaaptv, its been working very well for about 2 weeks, I had it working on a 1 Mbps connection with no problem, at first my thought was that it was not going to work well, but my surprise!!! It worked very well, you only need a consistent speed connection, then I called the ISP company to speed up the connection to 2 mbps, unfortunately this is the fastest speed availabe in my country, until the 10 mbps arrive, and the reciever has been working very very well, almost no buffering, last night I spent 2 hours watching TV and I experiment only 2 buffering wich only took 4-5 seconds, so nothing to worry too much about. Tony76 Thanks for the information.
I completely forgot about PlayOn. To all of those who do not know about PlayOn, ZAAPTV is supposedly compatible with PlayOn (go here and verify this information at www.Zaaptv.com). Its a piece of software that you download on your Windows computer, once installed it will try to access your ZAAPTV pod. Once it makes a connection it will pull content from those websites (Hulu, Netflix, Comedy Cnetral, ESPN.etc) and route it to your TV. This way you can select the videos you want to watch straight from your TV. It's not a free service, there is a free trial though, but for those who enjoy Hulu, Netflix.etc, its $5 a month, $30 a year or $80 for lifetime membership.
For more information about PlayOn goto: I personally have not tried the service so I can not say much about it. Tony76 Hello Anonymus, in my very personal opinion, it all depends on what you expect, Zaaptv has a good selection of Live Arabic Channels, from sports Channels to News, Drama, Comedy, Music, kids Channels and the quality is very good, not HD, but it looks very well, almost TV like, not to mention that it includes so many features. And actually most of the problems some people are reporting I think its because they are experimenting inconsistent broadband connections, but there are also a bunch of people who are really really happy with it, as I am, and as far as customer support, I'm sure those guys work very hard to give us a good service, I have contacted them twice, and their response was not as fast as I would like it to be, but 24 hours later is better than not getting any reply. Anon, As far as I can tell on ZAAPTV there are no pre-channel ads available except on two channels, that I rarely if ever watch. Why those two channels, I dont know!! Compression can be a good thing and a bad thing. While it does reduce bandwidth usage its not necessarily that it will result in a reduction in quality.
It depends on the type of compression used. The whole idea behind compression is to reduce bandwidth and try to maintain as much of the original quality as possible. Technically speaking whether Zaaptv or Maaxtv, they both have to use compression. They both have a finite amount of bandwidth and they both want to maximize its usage. So the question is, the compression they use, is it formatted to fit a TV screen or do they reduce the picture so much so when viewed on a TV it gets stretched out and appears pixelated and distorted all while streaming with no buffering issues. Since both are IPTV boxes designed to be viewed on a TV, then more than likely they are both formatted for TV viewing.
Here is a link to both devices supported formats containers: Since I am not affiliated with either and have no access to any technical data, I am just speculating here and please do not hold this against me. Jimmy Dear Mr. Masrawy, It seem to me that you are very expert and generous in helping others in this ZAAPTV business.
I purchased the box last month from ZAAP TV of Calif. Found that it is missing all Al-Jazeera's and Al-Arabia news channels. I registered and activated the box. On Myzaaptv I did mark subscribe to all the missing channels, then by clicking on My Channels there were nothing registered then when I click on Add Channel it leads me to a page asking for the channel's URL which end by.wmv. I don't know from where can I get that url. I left many messages to ZAAPTV technical support with no success.
I emailed them, there answer was 'ask any of your friend' I live in a town with no friend who has this box. Really it is frustrating and disappointing. The box I received had no owners manual to solve any technical situation. I really appreciate it very much if you help of how to add the disabled channels and the missing channels. Thank you for all your help to me and others. Tony76 Hello Jimmy, Al Arabiya is not available anymore, but in the Popular Websites section you can find Aljazeera English and Aljazeera Arabic and BBC Arabic News among other channels. According to adding new channels from MyZaaptv, just remember they were added by other users and a lot of them may not work, many has broken links and should be reported or those channels stoped streaming long ago.
You can find Aljazeera Sport 1, Aljazeera Masr, Aljazeera Mubasher, Aljazeera Documentary, also Aljazeera Children from myzaaptv in the arabic channels section and after adding them you will find those channels under My TV My Channels Arabic TV.those are diferent Aljazeera Channels and they work, you will see them as AJC Mubasher, AJC Sport 1, AJC Documentary, etc. Good luck and let us know if you succeded adding those channels. Tony76 Hi, this was posted in the Knowledge base, you can follow those instructions. Device continuously rebooting Posted by Alex Che on 05 September 2011 02:35 PM As for the box that is continuously rebooting, we have a solution. Please do the following: (i) Immediately after the box starts reboot, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN THE 'OK' KEY for about 20-30 secs(till the screen in (ii) appears).
(ii) A screen with heading 'System Diagnostics' will appear. (iii) In this, there are different options.
Select the last option of 'Run Previous Software'Press Stop Key. Please press the STOP key. MATT thanks Tony what u saying is exactly what i went thru, they did mention that and i did try to switch between the providers still couldn't get the MBC channels, i notice from yesterday they added couple of egyption channels now my friend he doesn't have the MBC within the main list it's on his Favorite list which he can't share with anyone, i would like to know how they r actually streaming those channels cause when i called they said they have low SNR on their signal i am thinking they have satellite dish somewhere in the Middle east and they r up streaming to server here!! Tony76 Hello mate, yes, they were working on it and the service was down for a couple of hours or so, they added some very nice channels, today is working fine, anyway, I still have some of the older channels for more than 15 days with that problem, I get that same error message: Unable to recognize the media format, and the support guys don't admit that the problem is coming from them, the say something like, you have internet or router issues, or, its your ISP. So, would any of you who also live in other countries can check if Panorama Action and the Rotana Channels are getting that same error message like in my case?
